Boots

In preparation for our dude ranch experience, I figured I better get some cowboy boots, especially since Annaliese will be riding and therefore I will be too. I searched on the internet looking for women’s cowboy boots with a wide calf. I couldn’t find anything that specific.

Thinking I would have to buy some ugly guy boots that had a strange heel and a pointy toe, I called our local western supply store, the “Boot Barn” to see if they had any boots with a wide calf. I talked to this gal and she suggested I buy these “in style” boots made by Ariat called Fatbabys. This sounded right up my alley.

I asked to make sure these were riding boots not just styling boots and she assured me that her rodeo friend who bought them swore by them. She said her friend used them to teach riding lessons and wore them for her everyday riding. The only drawback might be if I used them for barrel racing competition (OK …. remember this was over the phone.) I assured her that my only intention was to do some minor recreational riding to accompany my daughter over the next few years.

The shank (or shaft I don’t remember what she said) is a little shorter which helps when you have to move a little more frequently in the saddle and move through the stirrup. I’m repeating what they told me and I have no experience in this matter.

Take a look, they actually make my calves look normal AND they’re real fake ostrich.

Happy Trails!

Comments:
They look great. And, real fake ostrich. Boy, it doesn't get any better than that. I keep thinking about getting cowboy boots or motorcycle boots, cause they look so rockin' cool. But, then I think, "Where am I going to wear these things, really?" And, then, I put them back on the shelf (always DSW Shoe Warehouse for me). I do the same thing for high heeled shoes, mules, and anything with pointy toes. I've pretty much given up and wear sandals, tennis shoes, or orthopedic shoes. I used to be fun.

Lookin' good, and Gretchen is Great! Ready for the competition?

We just did the same visit to a boot store. Except we went to Schatzlein, the last tack shop in the Twin Cities. We waited for the salesman to finish helping a girl who was getting boots for Girl Scout camp, so Lilly could get her boots for Girl Scout camp. I looked for me -- they had the real deal there -- but I couldn't justify the money. And when I wear cowboy boots I always develop a bowlegged walk and end up looking weird. Because Lilly might grow out of them, we didn't splurge on fake ostrich. Fake leather with nice-looking stitching was all I was willing to do. They're a little big for me, but I suppose I can wear them if I want.
