Thanksgiving

Annaliese and I traveled to the great state of Texas for our Thanksgiving celebration. We spent a week visiting, eating and reminiscing. Dede reminded me that it had been over ten years since I last visited Odessa, a lot has changed in my life since then. Of course the highlight of the trip was the amazing turkey dinner, with Whit and the mom’s and Annaliese decorated those special Turkey cookies! Yummy!

We started the week off with a surprise from Dede; she took us to her friend’s horse stable in Midland and we got a chance to do some horseback riding in a ring. Wow, that horse was awesome; it reminds me that Annaliese and I have to take lessons this spring to prepare for our summer trip to the dude ranch. It didn’t act like the horses we typically trail ride, it had a mind of its own.

Later in the week Dede and I went to Dos Amigos for lunch; Fajitas and beer, the same thing I used to order years ago. Dede and me would meet almost every Saturday to eat (and drink.) It was just as tasty as I remember it, both the fajitas and the beer.

I made Dede take me to the jackrabbit; they moved the little bugger since I was there last. It looks like its metal but it actually sounds like it’s made from fiberglass, a little easier to move.

This particular rabbit had quite a few offspring since I left, if one jackrabbit is good then multiple rabbits are better. It was kinda freaky having rabbits looking at you all over town.

The day after Thanksgiving we braved the mall (in the afternoon) to visit Santa. It was a little surreal because parts of the mall had changed and other parts were the same. It was like I was in a familiar dream but somebody moved my cheese. What mall is not complete without a roped off display of the Ten Commandments?
I rested on some benches and admired the lighted Ten Commandments display, sigh.

Back home again, at first I thought a week would be too long but toward the end, it seemed we didn’t have enough time. I asked Dede what she did the couple of days after we left and before she had to return to work. She said her and Rob watched a lot of TV….I think it was a form of recovery?
